How Jesus Brings Lasting Change In Kids And Families

heart-based approach to parenting homeschooling Jun 30, 2023

Whether you believe it or not, Jesus thinks YOU are the BEST person to raise your children!

Now don't you go dismissing that statement and hitting the delete button on this email. It's true.

Recently I was interviewed on The Homeschool Advantage podcast with Bex Buzzie and spoke about how a heart-based approach to parenting is so important to seeing change happen in kids and families. The audience was obviously homeschooling parents, but a lot of what I shared would bless non-homeschooling parents as well. Listen to that interview below.

As Christians, our primary focus is not on developing strong readers, excellent mathematicians, or amazing writers. Our focus is on developing the hearts of our children so they are open and ready to receive all that Jesus has for them. Those other skills are important but they serve the primary purpose of following Jesus and extending His Kingdom.

Jesus wants to use your children to extend His kingdom, and He's tasked you with preparing their hearts. When we focus our parenting on our children's hearts, good things happen.

Jesus does not think you're the best person to raise your children because of any talents or skills you possess. He thinks it because of what He knows He can do through you with your children. Yes, all of your talents and skills help, but so too do all of your faults and flaws because it is when I am weak that then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9-11

But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

So yes, Jesus really does think YOU are the BEST person to raise your children. Let that sink in your head the next time you feel inadequate or like you just can't do it anymore. Remind yourself: He thinks I can. So I think I can through Him.

So whether you are a homeschooling family or not, go ahead and take a listen. You'll enjoy this content a lot!

All my best,

B.J.
