Why the Screen Time Struggle Is Different Today—and What You Can Do About It
Aug 08, 2024Hey there,
Are you constantly debating screen time with your kids, wondering why it feels so different from when you were a child?
That's why I made this week's video:
So what changed from when we were kids? When I was a kid, the worst thing discussed by adults about screen time was that children became more sedentary and thus prone to weight gain. (I still remember my dad calling kids who ran and were out of breath at baseball practice as having "Nintendo Breath" 😉). But now, we're waaaay beyond "Nintendo Breath" as the biggest concern of parents. Now, we're talking about brain development, social isolation, depression, suicidal thoughts, and the list goes on.
Something changed.
In this video, I dive deep into the crucial differences between what I call "old school" and "now school" screen time, helping you understand and navigate the unique dangers today's technology poses to your children. We explore how game design, socialization, and money-making tactics have evolved, making modern screen time more addictive and isolating than ever before.
You'll learn why it's essential to shift the conversation with your kids from simply being tech-savvy to being tech-wise. and how a heart-based approach to parenting can help you discover parenting solutions for managing too much screen time and turning it into an opportunity to foster cooperation instead of conflict in your family.
So, yes, I am now going to encourage you to engage in some screen time so you can learn how to navigate too much screen time with your children (Yup, I see the irony 😁).
So check out this week's video. You'll be so glad you did.
All my best,
B.J.
